Trade Ministry Proposes Anti-dumping Duty On Chinese Aluminium Foil Imports
Sep 03, 2024
India's Directorate General of Trade Remedies has proposed imposing anti-dumping duties on China's aluminum foil imports. The proposal is aimed at countering threats to India's domestic manufacturing industry.
Although India has sufficient local production capacity, China's aluminum foil shipments have surged, accounting for nearly one-third of India's market share. India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recommended imposing anti-dumping duties on aluminum foil imported from China.
The recommendations, contained in a report released by the ministry late on Friday (August 30, 2024) and submitted to the government for approval, aim to address threats to domestic manufacturing, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies said in the report.
It recommended a duty between $619 and $873 per metric ton on foil up to 80 microns thick, excluding aluminium foil below 5.5 microns for non-capacitor application.
Aluminium foil is used extensively as a packaging material for the conservation and preservation of edible products.
