Aluminium foil with Bitumen

Aluminum foil is commonly used as a vapor barrier for building insulation, in combination with asphalt. Compared to other traditional vapor barriers, aluminum foil has several properties that often (and in some cases) yield superior results when used in conjunction with asphalt sealants.

Aluminum foil has the following properties for insulation:

1. Heat resistance

2. Water resistance and non-flammability

3. Lightweight

4. Aluminum foil resists aging

5. UV resistance

This combination offers the typical advantages of a multi-layer composite, with the properties of the individual components complementing each other.

Aluminum foil also provides corrosion protection through self-passivation. However, if used outdoors, exposed to rain, or near saltwater, the foil should be painted or otherwise protected. Good thermal and acoustic insulation is best achieved with a combination of insulation material and aluminum foil (for example, laminated felt or aluminum-clad rock wool insulation panels and mineral wool pipe shells).
